Tunisia: Further information on: legal concern / prisoner of conscience: Khemais Chammari

The above, a human rights activist and parliamentarian, was tried and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on 17 July 1996. Amnesty International, whose observer attended his trial on 18 July, concluded that no convincing evidence was produced to substantiate the charges. The organization considers him to be a prisoner of conscience imprisoned solely for his conscientiously-held beliefs, and calls for his immediate and unconditional release.
