Turkey: Prisoner of conscience: Sanar Yurdatapan

Sanar Yurdatapan, spokesperson for the “Together for Peace” initiative and a leading composer and performer of contemporary music, was detained at Istanbul Ataturk Airport on 16 April 1997 on his return from a brief visit to Germany. He is currently being held incommunicado at the Anti-Terror Branch of Istanbul Police Headquarters. Amnesty International believes that he is a prisoner of conscience, detained on account of his campaigning for human rights and peace, and is calling for his immediate and unconditional release.
