Turkey: Fear of torture

Kadir Satik, Mete Demirkol: On 23 January 1997 plainclothes officers from the Anti-Terror Branch of Istanbul Police Headquarters raided the Kurdish-owned Komal Publishing House in Istanbul. They confiscated large amounts of equipment and detained the two Kurdish publishers. The prosecutor has given permission for them to be held incommunicado until 31 January and it is feared that they are being subjected to torture.
