China: Ill-treatment and health concern: Liu Nianchun

Liu Nianchun, born 1948, is a veteran dissident, labour activist and prisoner of conscience, serving a sentence of three years’ re-education through labour. He was reportedly beaten by other inmates at the instigation of the prison guards at Tuanhe labour camp but was denied medical treatment for his injuries. He has since been transferred to Shuanghe labour camp. He is weak and in poor health, suffering from serious problems in the gastrointestinal tract and weight loss. In spite of this he is believed to be continuing to do hard labour.
