Slovakia: Discrimination against Roma in access to education: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, January – February 2014

In this submission, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation by Slovakia of recommendations related to the rights of Roma. Amnesty International welcomes a landmark ruling at the Regional Court in Prešov that segregating Roma children into separate classes infringed equal treatment principle in the Anti-Discrimination Act. However, the systematic discrimination against Romani children in access to education remains a key concern and Amnesty International makes a number of recommendations to Slovakia to address these human rights violations.
