Burundi: Memorandum to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ rights

On the occasion of the 25 ordinary session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights to be held from 26 April to 5 May 1999 in Burundi, Amnesty International wishes to bring to the Commission’s attention some of its current human rights concerns in Burundi, especially the hundreds of extrajudicial executions committed by the armed forces and armed opposition groups, prison conditions and widespread use of torture and ill-treatment of detainees. Amnesty International is especially concerned about juvenile and children detainees kept in the same prisons as adults.
