Democratic Republic of Congo: From assassination to state murder?

Almost two years on from the assassination of President Laurent-Désiré Kabila in January 2001, the trial of his suspected assassins and their accomplices appears to be entering its final stages. Amnesty International is publishing this document to highlight its concerns regarding the unfairness of the trial and the possibly imminent passing of death sentences. The organisation is calling for all the defendants to receive a fair trial in line with international standards and to have the right to appeal against their sentences.
