Russian Federation: The Meskhetians in Krasnodar Territory

Meskhetians are a largely Muslim group who were forcibly relocated from southwest Georgia in 1944 by the former Soviet regime. Many Meskhetians who had been transported to Uzbekistan were subsequently forced to flee to Russia in 1989 after violent attacks on them and their property in the Fergana region between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
