Nigeria: At the mercy of the government: Violation of the right to an effective remedy in Badia East, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Close to 18 months after the Lagos state government sent bulldozers into the informal settlement of Badia East in Lagos state Nigeria; and demolished over 200 structures that served as homes and businesses, the affected people continue to be without an effective remedy. This report documents both the Lagos state government’s failure to adequately compensate affected people; and the World Bank’s failure to ensure that a Resettlement Action Plan it approved complied with international human rights standards and its own policy.
