Morocco: Amnesty International’s Submission in the Context of the National Debate on Abortion

On 16 March 2015, King Mohammed VI asked the Ministers of Justice and Freedoms, and the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, along with the President of the National Human Right Council, to organize wide consultations and submit a draft bill within one month, reforming Morocco’s legislation on abortion. This royal intervention came in the wake of a series of conferences and debates on the issue of access to abortion at the beginning of March, both at the initiative of Moroccan civil society and official actors such as the Minister of Health and the National Human Right Council, responsible for promoting and protecting human rights in Morocco.
