The above-named, aged 42 years from Qalqilia in the West Bank, was arrested on 1 October 1990 and later issued with a six-month administrative detention order. Ahmad Shuraym had previously spent twenty years in prison from 1969-89 on charges relating to a military operation against Israel and membership of al-Fatah. Ahmad Shuraym has appealed against his order. His appeal was rejected but the sentence was reduced by 12 days. At his appeal hearing, it was alleged that he was a senior leader of al-Fatah, but there was no mention of any violent activities. Ahmad Shuraym has a record of ill-health from his previous detention and Amnesty International is concerned that he receives all necessary medical treatment.
