Joint Letter to UN Security Council

This open letter from the International Crisis Group, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International considers that the Darfur peace agreement, signed on May 5, could contribute to reversing the appalling situation in western Sudan, but only if the protection-related provisions of the agreement are fully and immediately implemented. The letter considers the UN transition and the need for a stronger international force to be deployed. The Sudanese government continues to reject the deployment of the UN. If this does not change Security Council members should impose further sanctions.
