Turkey: Woman lawyer jailed for 30 years after unfair trial

Sevil Dalkilic, lawyer, was detained in her home-towm Kaman on 2 March 1994, held in police custody for 15 days and severely tortured until she signed a statement implicating her in several bombing incidents. On 7 February 1995 she was sentenced to a total of 30 years’ imprisonment. AI considers her to be a prisoner of conscience, convicted after a manifestly unfair trial on the basis of a torture confession which she later retracted in court.
