Uzbekistan: Human rights violations continue to be commonplace four years after Uzbekistan’s first review: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review

In this submission, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of a number of recommendations made to Uzbekistan during its previous Universal Periodic Review in 2008. Amnesty International further expresses concerns about the current human rights situation such as the clamp-down on freedom of expression and association. Torture and other ill-treatment continue to be widespread. Allegations of torture or ill-treatment are rarely effectively investigated, contributing to a climate of impunity. Human rights violations continue to be carried out in the context of national security and the fight against terrorism.
