Marius Popescu was detained and reportedly ill-treated by police after being arrested on 21 Febrauary 1996. There were attempts by the police to cover up the ill-treatment. His sister filed a complaint. Eugen Gales alleges he was ill-trated by the police after an arrest during a dispute over property. If confirmed this represents a violation of Romania’s treaty obligations.
