Entitled ‘Protecting America through Lawful Detention of Terrorists’, the new executive order signed by President Trump on 30 January 2018 revokes his predecessor’s order to close the Guantánamo detention facility. The executive order leaves the USA on the wrong side of its international law obligations. Other governments and the international community more broadly should take the USA to task on this regressive step.
