On 12 October 2009, armed security forces opened fire on a crowd of people peacefully protesting against the proposed demolition of their homes in Bundu community, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. At least twelve people were shot and seriously injured. The total number of dead remains unknown. A year later, no investigation has been carried out. Amnesty International is calling on the government of Nigeria to set up an independent commission of inquiry to investigate the use of force and firearms by the police and the Joint Task Force (JTF) at Bundu waterfront.
