Five civilians and a suicide bomber were killed and about 33 people were wounded on the morning of 24 July 1995 when a bomb exploded on a bus in the Tel Aviv suburb of Ramat Gan. The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has reportedly claimed responsibility. AI fears that it may carry out further such attacks. AI strongly condemns such deliberate and arbitrary killings and calls on Hamas to halt attacks against civilians immediately.

According to the latest information received by Amnesty International, six
civilans were killed, including a suicide bomber, and about 33 were wounded
on the morning of 24 July 1995 when a bomb exploded on a bus in the Tel Aviv
suburb of Ramat Gan. The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has reportedly
claimed responsibility for the attack. In the past Hamas has claimed
responsibility for similar attacks against civilians, and Amnesty International
fears it may carry out further attacks against civilian targets.
Amnesty International strongly condemns such deliberate and arbitrary killings,
which violate fundamental principles of international humanitarian law. Respect
for such principles must be unconditional. Amnesty is calling on Hamas to halt
attacks against civilians immediately.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send telegrams/faxes/express and airmail letters
either in English or in your own language:
- expressing deep regret about the killings of civilians in Tel Aviv on 24
July 1995;
- calling on Hamas to demonstrate respect for fundamental principles of
international humanitarian law and halt attacks against civilians immediately.
