The Supreme Court trial of the seven people named above ended on 31 March.
All the defendants were found guilty of charges including conspiracy to seize
power and calling for the violent overthrow of the state. The six male
defendants were sentenced to prison terms of up to 12 years; the one female
defendant, Dilarom Iskhakova, received a suspended sentence.
The full list of sentences handed down by the court was as follows: Murad
Dzhurayev - 12 years' imprisonment; Nemat Akhmedov - 10 years' imprisonment;
Khoshim Suvanov - six years' imprisonment; Shavkat Mamatov - five years'
imprisonment; Shavkat Khalbayev - 10 years' imprisonment; Erkin Ashurov - 10
years' imprisonment; Dilarom Iskhakova - six years' imprisonment, suspended
for three years.
Amnesty International believes that this may not have been a fair trial.
Specifically, Amnesty International remains concerned that confessions
possibly made under torture were used in the prosecution of these seven people.
Amnesty International is calling on authorities in Uzbekistan to order a
judicial review of this case. Amnesty International is continuing to call
for a full and impartial investigation into allegations that defendants in
this case were tortured and ill-treated, and for anyone found responsible for
having committed torture or ill-treatment to be brought to justice. Amnesty
International also remains concerned about the health of Erkin Ashurov, who
was reported to be in need of medical attention for diabetes, rheumatism and

- calling on authorities to order a judicial review of the case of the seven
people named above;
- calling for an investigation into allegations that defendants in this case
were tortured or ill-treated, with the results made public and those responsible
brought to justice;
- calling for Erkin Ashurov to be given all appropriate medical assistance.
