USSR: Death Penalty appeal: Valery Sankin

On 21 September 1991 the Soviet newspaper, Soviet Russia, reported that a man named as Valery Sankin had been sentenced to death on 16 September by the Supreme Court of Bashkiria (Bashkortostan) in the Russian Republic (RSFSR). He and seven other people, who were sentenced to terms of imprisonment, were convicted of robbery, rape and murder. It is not known whether Valery Sankin has appealed against his sentence or lodged a petition for clemency.
