Concerns in Europe May - October 1993
This bulletin contains information on AI's concerns in Europe during the period May-October 1993. These include ill-treatment and alleged torture in police detention; imprisonment of conscientious objectors and other prisoner of conscience; the death penalty; killings, hostage taking and other abuses committed in the context of armed conflicts; violations against minorities, immigrants and homosexuals. Recent ratifications of human rights instruments are reported. The five Central Asian Republics, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadzhikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan continue to be dealt with in this bulletin because of their membership of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the CSCE.
