SINGAPORE Daniel Chan Chi-pun, security guard, 38
Amnesty International has learned with deep regret that Daniel Chan Chi-pun
was hanged on 10 March 1995.
He had been granted a last-minute reprieve in November 1994 after his lawyer
submitted a personal appeal for clemency to the President. Daniel Chan Chi-pun
is said to have resisted lodging the appeal earlier because he thought it would
contradict his claim that he was innocent. He had been sentenced to death
in May 1993 for drug trafficking.
According to the Singapore Central Narcotics Bureau, Daniel Chan Chi-pun is
the 99th person to be executed for drugs offences.
No further action by the Urgent Action Network is requested. Thank you to
all who sent appeals on behalf of Daniel Chan Chi-pun.
