, رقم الوثيقة: ASA 17/025/1995

This document provides further information about the fate of 11 Tibetan nuns in detention since 1993. All were adopted by AI as prisoners of conscience. Gyaltsen Kelsang, aged 24, is reported to have died on 20 February 1995, shortly after leaving custody on medical parole. The cause of death is unknown, but she was reportedly ill-treated in detention, held in poor conditions and was recently diagnosed as suffering from a severe kidney complaint. Another nun, Gyaltsen Pelsang, is reported to have been released on 9 February 1995. Eight of the nine nuns remaining in detention are reported to be held in Drapchi Prison. Ngawang Chendrol, aged 18, is reportedly in very poor health and is at home on medical parole. AI continues to call for their immediate and unconditional release.
