Susana Roque Castro (f), aged 34, Rosa Cardenas R (f), aged 46: There is concern at reports that the above women were ill-treated and threatened with being killed when they were arbitrarily detained on 25 April 1997. According to reports the taxi they were travelling in was intercepted by two armed men dressed as civilians. The women were forced out of the taxi and into the other car and there they were ill-treated and threatened. They were then driven to Condevilla Police Station where they remained for several hours, before being transferred to the DINCOTE.

Amnesty International is concerned at reports that Susana Roque Castro and
Rosa Cárdenas R. were ill-treated and threatened with being killed when they
were detained on the night of 25 April 1997.
According to reports, Susana Roque and Rosa Cárdenas were travelling in a taxi
after leaving the home of Rolly Rojas' family, when the taxi was intercepted
by two men driving a car. The two men, who were wearing civilian clothes and
carrying firearms, forced Susan Roque and Rosa Cárdenas out of the taxi and
into the other car. Once in the car, they were ill-treated and threatened
with being killed. They were then driven to the Delegación Policial de
Condevilla, Condevilla Police Station, where they remained for several hours
before being transferred to the DINCOTE, the anti-terrorism branch of the
Policía Nacional del Perú, National Police of Peru.
FURTHER RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send telegrams/faxes/express/ airmail
letters in Spanish or in your own language:
- expressing concern about the reported ill-treatment and death threats to
which Susan Roque and Rosa Cárdenas R. were subjected on being detained on
25 April 1997 by two men dressed as civilians;
- urging the authorities to conduct a prompt, independent and affective
investigation into the allegations, to make the findings public and to bring
those responsible to justice.
