Further information on UA 411/92 (AFR 54/34/92, 22 December) - Sudan: fear of torture / legal concern: Salma Abdulla Khalil, Saaida Abdulla Khalil, Nadia Said and new name: Hala Mirghani Suleiman

, رقم الوثيقة: AFR 54/001/1993

The above-named women were released on the evening of their arrest, which followed peaceful demonstrations in protest at the cost of living. However, they are reported to have been ordered to report early each day to the security headquarters in Khartoum, where they are held until just before the evening curfew. They are apparently not being interrogated or investigated. AI considers them still to be prisoners of conscience. Day- time detention is now widely-used in Khartoum to harass suspected government opponents and restrict their freedom of movement.
