Nathaniel Ngakantsi and Joseph Molefe were reportedly released from police custody on 4 January 1994. Further detentions of ANC activists have been carried out in the past few days. The four detainees named above were reportedly arrested on 2 January and released on 4 January: they were reportedly interrogated about the operation of the Mafikeng ANC office. Joyce Tshewu was also interrogated about the work of the Lawyers for Human Rights office. During her detention Joyce Tshewu, who was in poor health, became ill and as of 4 January was still in hospital being treated for heart problems. Police allegedly questioned her in hospital in a threatening manner.
