people fleeing the fighting in Chechnya / The parents of
Kheda (Elza) Kungaeva show photographs of their daughter
taken before and after she was abducted and killed by Russian
soldiers. The conflict in Chechnya has been characterized
by widespread and credible reports that Russian forces have
been responsible for violations of international human rights
and humanitarian law, including "disappearances",
extrajudicial executions and torture, including rape. Some
300,000 people, the majority of them women and children,
have fled their homes to escape the fighting. © Paula
