52nd UN Commission on Human Rights: Statements and press releases issued by Amnesty International

Amnesty International delivered one written and three oral statements to the 52nd session of the UN Commission on Human Rights. It made statements on Burundi, on its concerns in the Israeli-Occupied Territories (agenda item 4) and with several other NGOs gave a joint oral statement on human rights defenders (under agenda item 19). A fourth oral statement under agenda item 10, on systematic human rights violations on specific countries (China, Colombia, Indonesia/East Timor, Nigeria and Turkey) was not given in protest at a five minute time limitation imposed by the Commission on NGOs. The statement was instead made available to all participants and the media. The written statement was under agenda item 8(c) on the question of enforced or involuntary disappearances in Morocco and Western Sahara. Press releases were issued to mark the start and end of the session and on the European Union’s position in regard to China. A press briefing was also handed out at the start of the session.
