AI is concerned about the reported beating and ill-treatment by police officers of Gabriela-Ioana Gavrila on 4 July 1994. Two police officers reportedly arrested her as she left her flat. She was charged with being a prostitute. When she resisted attempts to take her away she was physically ill-treated. She was later questioned in the prosecutor’s office about the business affairs of the firm where she was employed. Gabriela-Ioana Gavrila later complained to the prosecutor about the ill-treatment. She suspects that it and the criminal complaint against the firm where she works may be motivated by the dismissal from the same company of a temporary assistant.
