Cyprus: Imprisonment of conscientious objector Pelopidas Georgiou Nikolaou

On 30 May 1994 conscientious objector and Jehovah’s Witness Pelopidas Georgiou Nikolaou was sentenced by Nicosia Military Court to six months’ imprisonment for refusing to perform military service. This is his second term of imprisonment, as he has already served a 2-months’ sentence in 1992. When he is released he will probably be called up again, and is likely to face yet a further term of imprisonment upon refusing to perform military service. He is a prisoner of conscience.
