Argentina: Attacks, threats and other forms of intimidation against journalists, judges and government critics

This document reports recent violent attacks, death threats and other forms of intimidation against individuals who have criticized the President of Argentina or who are members of organizations advocating respect for human rights. The cases cited here are: threats against Hebe de Bonafini and other members of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo; the attack on Fernando Solanas, one of Argentina’s foremost film directors; threats to judges Jorge Casanovas and Horacio Cattani, and threats to journalists Manuel Maria Meseguer, Riccardo Benozzo and Jose Maria Pasquini Duran, Norma Morandini, Ed McCullough, Richard Jarvie, Hasso Ramspeck and Jorge Lanata. Another journalist, Nestor Ibarra, had a parcel containing fake explosives delivered to his house.
