URGENT ACTION SYRIAN "PEACE BRIDES" RELEASED FROM DETENTION Four Syrian women who had been arrested while peacefully demonstrating as "Peace Brides" were released on 9 January. Ru’a Ja’far, aged 24, Rima Dali, aged 33, as well as sisters Kinda al-Za’our, aged 26 and Lubna al-Za’our were released on 9 January 2013. The four women had been arrested at the Midhat Basha market in the Syrian capital, Damascus, where they were peacefully demonstrating for an end to violence in Syria, by wearing white wedding dresses. Their release is part of a prisoner exchange whereby 48 Iranian hostages held by an armed opposition group were released in exchange for the agreement to release a reported 2,130 civilians held by the Syrian authorities. It is not clear if all 2,130 have yet been released.
Thanks to all of those who took action on behalf of Ru’a Ja’far, Rima Dali, Kinda al-Za’our, and Lubna al- Za’our. No further appeals from the network are required at present.
