UZBEKISTAN Erkin Yakubzhanov (m), aged 26, journalist

Prisoner of conscience and journalism student, Erkin Yakubzhanov, was released on 29 July, by Uzbekistani border guards. He reportedly does not face any criminal charges and has been sent back to his village in Kyrgyzstan.

Erkin Yakubzhanov was arrested when he tried to interview border guards whilst investigating repression in Andizhan since the 13 May uprising. He was detained by Uzbekistani border guards on 18 July in the town of Dustlik, which borders Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. He was then reportedly moved from Dustlik to Andizhan and subsequently transferred to the capital Tashkent prior to his release.
