Turkey: Attack on minibus condemned
Amnesty International condemns in the strongest terms the attack on a minibus in the Hakkari province of south-eastern Turkey.
According to reports at least ten people were killed and three injured in the attack which took place when the minibus travelling on a road close to the village of Geçitli/Peyanis struck a landmine.
Such an attack, targeting people going about their daily lives shows complete contempt for the most fundamental principles of international law.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Allegations were made by local people that two bags containing munitions and apparently belonging to the armed forces were discovered at the scene of the attack.
Amnesty International calls on the authorities to investigate the attack thoroughly and impartially regardless of the affiliation of the alleged perpetrators and to bring those responsible to justice in line with international human rights standards.
