MOZAMBIQUE Amir Ali Mahomed (m), aged 25


Amir Ali Mahomed is still held at Machava prison in the capital, Maputo. He has been given medical treatment there, but has not been transferred to hospital.

The Office of the Procurator General (Attorney-General) opened an inquiry into his case, which reportedly led to criminal charges against three police officers alleged to have shot him.

In the past few months there have been several reports of detainees being removed from their place of custody and extrajudicially executed by police officers in Mozambique.

Many thanks to all those who took action on this case. If possible please send a final round of appeals, in Portuguese, English or your own language:
- welcoming the fact that Amir Ali Mahomed has been given medical treatment in prison;
- welcoming the investigation into the shooting of Amir Ali Mahomed and the prosecution of the police officers allegedly responsible;
- urging the authorities to order an immediate investigation into all reported extrajudicial executions by police, with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice, and to ensure that extrajudicial executions by police are not tolerated.
