Turkmenistan: Individuals continue to be at risk of violations in Turkmenistan

Two years since the President took office, many of the people whose cases are described in this document, are still awaiting justice and new cases are emerging of individuals subjected to human rights violations for their perceived opposition to the government. Amnesty International calls on President Berdymukhamedov to live up to his earlier promises of human rights reforms by swiftly ending enforced disappearances, releasing prisoners of conscience, ensuring fair trials, putting an end to torture or other ill-treatment, and lifting restrictions on freedom of expression of journalists, civil society activists, and on freedom of religion.
