Olga Arutyunova, whose name indicates ethnic Armenian origin, was detained by police in Baku on 4 February 1994. At the time of writing no criminal charge is known to have been brought, although her detention is believed formally to be in connection with alleged passport irregularities. AI is concerned by reports indicating that she may have been detained on grounds of ethnic (Armenian) origin, to be exchanged for ethnic Azeri prisoners held in connection with the Karabakh conflict.
