This report summarizes some of Amnesty International’s key concerns raised with the Danish authorities in 1994 and in prior years and refers to developments since that time. These concerns include allegations of ill-treatment by police, the deterioration in the physical and mental health of Greenlanders imprisoned in Denmark, the failure to conduct prompt and impartial investigations, and that the authorities and at least one member of the judiciary have interpreted what constitutes torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment too narrowly and in a manner inconsistent with the Convention against Torture.
