Indonesia: Open letter on unchecked police abuse in Nabire district, Papua

In this open letter Amnesty International expresses its concerns about the human rights situation to the Regional Police Chief. The letter includes details of illustrative cases of possible unlawful killings and unnecessary and excessive use of force. The cases of police beatings of peaceful political activists and other demonstrators are also detailed as well as the ill-treatment of a human rights defender. The organization urges the Indonesian authorities to implement human rights based policing in accordance with international human rights treaties and law.
