Togo: AI memorandum on the human rights situation in Togo and recommendations to the African Union

Amnesty International submits this briefing to the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU) to draw attention to the current human rights situation in Togo, which has seriously deteriorated since the announcement of the death of Gnassingbé Eyadéma, on 5 February 2005. Specific concerns are: Attack against freedom of expression; Attack against freedom of assembly and excessive use of force; and Allegations of abuses carried out by politically motivated armed groups.
