Russian Federation: Freedom under threat: The clampdown against freedoms of expression, assembly and association in Russia

A year since Vladimir Putin’s return as President of the Russian Federation, the space for political opposition and other forms of dissent is rapidly shrinking. New laws have restricted people’s rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly. This report analyses these legislative developments and documents several cases in which the rights to the freedom of expression, association and assembly have been violated. The result is a long list of human rights violations that collectively testify to the shrinking of fundamental freedoms in Russia.
