Jordan: Security measures violate human rights

Following the 11 September 2001 attacks in the United States (US), Jordan made changes to its legislation. New laws, effective from 2 October, broadened the definition of "terrorism"; restricted freedom of expression and the press; and expanded the scope of offences punishable by the death penalty and life imprisonment. In this report Amnesty International is calling on the Jordanian government to bring its legislation in line with international human rights standards and to end incommunicado detention.
