In this document Amnesty International expresses its concern that the Belarusian authorities have become intolerant of any public criticism or dissent. The rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly are enshrined in various international human rights treaties. Several cases are used to illustrate abuses of such rights. The report ends with recommendations to the Belarusian authorities, including to refrain from the use of criminal law to stifle peaceful opposition, to ensure that peaceful demonstrators are not imprisoned, harassed or ill-treated by police and to stop the deliberate pattern of obstruction, harassment and intimidation of human rights defenders.\n\n\n
