Papua New Guinea: Briefing to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women: Violence against women (Anna T, 7 August 09)

In this briefing Amnesty International submits information for consideration by the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women. The organization raises concerns about PNG’s compliance with its obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (the Convention). This briefing does not reflect the full range of concerns of the organisation in terms of respect, protection and fulfilment of women’s rights in PNG, but looks primarily at the pervasiveness of gender-based violence in the country.
