Guatemala: Briefing to the UN Committee against Torture

This briefing details Amnesty International’s concerns about the failure by Guatemala to comply with its obligations under the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. The submission focuses particularly on the Guatemalan government’s obligations to tackle impunity and effectively investigate crimes under international law, ensuring criminal prosecutions of those responsible and reparations to victims and their families. The government should make available information which could shed light on the fate of the hundreds of thousands of those executed or forcibly disappeared and also for criminal prosecutions.
