Amnesty International report on Bahrain human rights

On 17 April, days before the scheduled date of the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix (20-22 April), Amnesty International is releasing a new report Flawed Reforms: Bahrain fails to achieve justice for protesters. The report, which is about 50 pages long, highlights patterns of human rights violations which continue to be committed by Bahraini security forces and provides testimonies of victims of human rights violations who are still awaiting justice. The government is refusing to release scores of prisoners incarcerated because they wanted meaningful political reforms and in recent months has become more concerned with investing in public relations efforts than actually introducing real human rights and political reforms in their country In November 2011, the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) – also sometimes called the “Bassiouni Commission” – completed its investigation into human rights violations committed following the anti-government protests in February and March that year. The King of Bahrain promised full implementation of the BICI’s recommendations. The report documents the performance of the Bahraini authorities in carrying out these recommendations, and calls on the Bahraini government to show real political will for reforms. When: The report will be released at 0001hrs BST on 17 April.
