Spain/Morocco: Amnesty International investigates recent incidents involving migrants
Dozens of people were killed and injured in the past few weeks when trying to gain entry into the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla from Morocco. They were confronted by law enforcement officials of both countries who used force to prevent them from entering the enclaves.
Hundreds of migrants, including possible asylum seekers, were rounded up by Moroccan security forces and transported to areas along Morocco's borders with Algeria and Mauritania, where they are alleged to have been left without adequate food or water leading to further deaths.
An Amnesty International delegation is in the region until 24 October to collect further information and to bring the organization's concerns about the treatment of migrants to the authorities of both Spain and Morocco.
A press conference will be held in Madrid on 26 October to present the findings of the mission.
