Five Muslim university students who were detained by a military unit in southern Thailand on 15 August 2008 have been released. The five are members of a student organization, the Student Federation of Yala, which organizes human rights education and training activities in Yala Province. They were released unharmed on 27 August 2008 after 12 days in detention, during which time their situation was closely monitored by lawyers, students groups and human rights activists.

No further action is required from the UA network. Many thanks to all those who sent appeals.
