AFGHANISTAN (PAKISTAN)Professor Mohammad Rahim Elham

Amnesty International has learned that Professor Mohammad Rahim Elham has been granted asylum in a safe country.

Professor Mohammad Rahim Elham, an Afghan refugee living in Pakistan, had been forcibly deported to Afghanistan in June. His deportation contravened an agreement between the Government of Pakistan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to jointly assess refugee claims prior to deportation, and raised fears that he might be subjected to human rights violations by the Afghan authorities. International publicity and concern facilitated his return to Pakistan, and his resettlement to the United States.

No further action is required at the moment. Thank you to everyone who sent appeals.
