Philippines: Political Killings, Human Rights and the Peace Process (Summary)

This is the summary of the report ASA 35/006/2006 which looks at the increase in the number of killings of political and community activists in recent years. The methodology of the attacks has led Amnesty International to conclude that the attacks constitute a politically-motivated pattern of killings. The organization is gravely concerned that members of the security forces may have been directly involved or been complicit in the killings. This summary includes, in brief, the key recommendations of the full report which also has as an appendix the organization’s 14-point Program for the Prevention of Extrajudicial Execution.
